These surfers put our young men and women at risk because they are too stupid to realize the strength and power of a hurricane. They shouldn't have been out there to begin with.

SURFSIDE BEACH, Texas - Thirteen surfers had to be pulled to safety Sunday after becoming fatigued in 15-foot seas created by Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Coast Guard said.


Coast Guard Petty Officer Troy Davis said the rip tides were strong and most of the rescues were 400 to 500 yards off Quintana Beach, about 60 miles south of Houston on the Gulf of Mexico.

Sunday evening, nearby Surfside Beach closed the Surfside jetties that are used by many surfers as a launching point.

Hurricane Katrina, a powerful Category 5 storm, was expected to make landfall Monday morning near New Orleans. A hurricane warning was in effect for the north-central Gulf Coast from Morgan City, La., to the Alabama-Florida line.

Idiots. It reminds me of the people I am hearing about on tv who refused to evacuate and stayed on to party in New Orleans and now the buildings they are in have collapsed and they are calling 911 wanting people to come and rescue them.

Jen never was in the Coast Guard. She was an Army MP and you should hear her go off about people like these. They had idiots in Hawaii where they were stationed who had to be pulled out of tight spots because they were stupid.

That's what I was thinking of - I thought she was Coast Guard.

You know ... I may have mentioned to you a few years ago that the Coast Guard Recruiter was after Jen. She was in school for her paramedic cert and the Coast Guard was very interested in her. However, there would be deployments and I had to have a mother/daughter talk with her and remind her she had a daughter and a soon-to-be ex who was a horrible father (he eventually ran off to Alaska to avoid having to pay child support). The only reason he even bothered to see Guin was because Jen let it show that she was concerned (with reason) about Guin when he had her. I told her to quit doing that and start calling him to make sure he would show up and insist he do that etc and complain loudly when he missed. Funny, but very sad, when that happened he stopped even trying to see his daughter. He hadn't seen her in months when he ran off.

Anyway, she had to put her daughter before this opportunity because it would be very bad if she were deployed and Guin had to live with him. It didn't take much convincing.
