SUBJ: 2005 COAST GUARD DAY MESSAGE
1. THE COAST GUARDS BIRTHDAY OFFERS US THE CHANCE TO REFLECT ON THE
PAST YEAR AND CONSIDER THE MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE THAT WE
HAVE SHARED TOGETHER. YOU HAVE PERFORMED EACH MISSION, IN EVERY
REGARD, WITH BRILLIANCE AND COURAGE. OUR RECENT SUCCESSES SHARE A
COMMON AND HISTORICAL THEME -- OUR TEAM OF DIVERSE, MULTI-
COMPETENT, MULTI-MISSION COASTIES, WHETHER ACTIVE DUTY, RESERVE,
CIVILIAN OR AUXILIARY, HAVE DONE THINGS THAT HAVENT BEEN DONE
BEFORE, HAVE DONE THEM BETTER THAN THEY HAVE BEEN DONE BEFORE, AND
SOMETIMES, DID THEM FURTHER FROM HOME THAN THEYVE EVER BEEN DONE
BEFORE.
2. YOUR ABILITY TO ADAPT TO TODAYS RAPIDLY CHANGING OPERATIONAL
ENVIRONMENT, SQUEEZE EXCELLENCE OUT OF OUR OVER-EXTENDED SYSTEMS,
AND PROVIDE THE FACE OF CALM PROFESSIONALISM TO A WARY PUBLIC
EMBODIES WHO WE ARE - LIFE SAVERS, WARRIORS, GUARDIANS, PATRIOTS.
3. IT IS MY HONOR TO SALUTE EACH OF YOU AND THOSE WHO HAVE GONE
BEFORE US. YOU HAVE SACRIFICED AND SERVED OUR COUNTRY SO WELL AND
PERSONIFIED THE COAST GUARDS CORE VALUES OF HONOR, RESPECT AND
DEVOTION TO DUTY.
4. THANK YOU FOR YOUR EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE TO OUR GREAT NATION. I
AM EXTREMELY PROUD TO BE YOUR COMMANDANT.
5. HAPPY 215TH BIRTHDAY TO ALL. SEMPER PARATUS.
6. INTERNET RELEASE AUTHORIZED.
7. ADM THOMAS H. COLLINS, COMMANDANT, SENDS.

My cousin was in the Coast Guard, but had to get out when he was injured. He loved it.

We in Oregon love the Coast Guard!

Happy Birthday, Coast Guard.

Happy Birthday Coast Guard!

USCG Celebrates 215 Years of Service
U.S. Coast Guard | August 04, 2005
SAN DIEGO - Coast Guard men and women serving the San Diego area, across the United States and stationed throughout the world will celebrate the service's birthday on Thursday, August 4, 2005, observing 215 years of service to the American public.

The Coast Guard, one of America's five armed services, was created in 1790 when the first U.S. Congress authorized the construction of a fleet of "revenue marine" cutters. It received its present name in 1915 when the Revenue Cutter Service merged with the U.S. Life-Saving Service. The service expanded in size and responsibilities as the nation grew and today is responsible for many diverse missions.

The Coast Guard, one of the oldest organizations of the federal government, continues to protect the nation throughout its long history. Coast Guardsmen have served proudly in every one of the nation's conflicts including providing waterborne security in the ongoing actions in Iraq.

Maritime homeland defense remains one of the Coast Guard's most important functions and has received renewed emphasis since recent terrorist attacks. The men and women of Sector San Diego, Maritime Safety and Security Team San Diego and the newly commissioned Sector Command Center-Joint remain 'Always Ready' to ensure the safety of the Port of San Diego and the security of our citizens.

San Diego area Coast Guard men and women and their families will celebrate 215 years of service, tomorrow, during a picnic and celebration at Admiral Baker Field in San Diego.
