Drive-Thru McDonald's

In 1975, the McDonald’s in Sierra Vista, AZ, near Ft. Huachuca was the first restaurant to have a drive through window. The drive through allowed soldiers from Ft. Huachuca to get food since uniforms were not permitted in business establishments.

I remember Mc/MacDonald's when it was a sit-down place to take kids. I never knew men couldn't go into restaurants when in uniform.

When I was stationed at Ft Carson, I went to a McDonald's during lunch and someone of a higher rank stopped me when I came out. He told me I wasn't supposed to go anywhere off post, out of my vehicle, in fatigues.

Good thing he wasn't around most mornings when I stopped at 7-Eleven!

It was 1975 and not all places were friendly to the military. I've known many who were stationed in places where they were not allowed off base in a uniform.
