Post Salvation Army kettle gets $3,000 gift

FRACKVILLE, Pa. - The Salvation Army of Pottsville, Pa., has no guarantee of making its $60,000 Red Kettle goal for the year, but one donation moved it rapidly in the right direction.

An 18-year-old volunteer who was manning a kettle at a mall on Monday says an older man with glasses, a flannel shirt and jeans dropped in 30 $100 bills.

The volunteer, Andrew J. Hunt, says he's seen the man donate before but doesn't know his name.

Salvation Army Captain Adam Hench says donations are running below average because of the weather and high fuel costs, and the $3,000 helps. He says he wishes he knew who the donor was so he could thank him in person.

The man obviously wants to be anonymous, but what a generous gift.
