| Icing Queen ![]() | Why was the Grand Canyon pictured backwards? In January 2000, the U.S. Postal Service issued a Grand Canyon stamp. However, the photo used was a reverse image, giving a mirror image of a view from the South Rim. The previous year, the Postal Service mistakenly labeled the Grand Canyon as a Colorado landmark on 100 million stamps. Those stamps were destroyed. A trade paper estimated the reprinting cost for the current mistake at $500,000, and so it was decided to distribute them with the reversed image. | Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | The South Rim is where we were. I've only been able to get one of the pictures I took into my pictures here, and it is most unusual. The blue didn't show up like that to us, but to the eye of the camera, this is what it was like. I hope to get other pictures in there, and my computer guy will cut them down for me. | Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | I hope you will too, Connie. Bob and I had both wanted to see it all our lives, and finally we did. This picture fascinates me -- it's almost more like an oil painting than reality, yet it's a photograph. Well, I think the question goes even further back than that, Jeff. Like, why didn't the developer make sure he was developing from the correct side of the film? Of course, the Grand Canyon is so vast it could be difficult to remember or to see the place a picture was taken and check it out. Obviously, it can be done, and obviously your question is spot on. It makes absolutely no sense!
