| Icing Queen ![]() | Henry Ford - Automobile Pioneer(7/30/1863-4/7/47) A bore is a person who opens his mouth and puts his feats in it. ---------- A business absolutely devoted to service will have only one worry about profits. They will be embarrassingly large. ---------- Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young. The greatest thing in life is to keep your mind young. ---------- Capital punishment is as fundamentally wrong as a cure for crime as charity is wrong as a cure for poverty. ---------- Chop your own wood, and it will warm you twice. ---------- Coming together is a beginning; keeping together is progress; working together is success. ---------- Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain. ---------- Even a mistake may turn out to be the one thing necessary to a worthwhile achievement. ---------- Exercise is bunk. If you are healthy, you don't need it: if you are sick you should not take it. ---------- I believe God is managing affairs and that He doesn't need any advice from me. With God in charge, I believe everything will work out for the best in the end. So what is there to worry about. ---------- If money is your hope for independence you will never have it. The only real security that a man will have in this world is a reserve of knowledge, experience, and ability. ---------- If you think you can do a thing or think you can't do a thing, you're right. ---------- My best friend is the one who brings out the best in me. ---------- One of the greatest discoveries a man makes, one of his great surprises, is to find he can do what he was afraid he couldn't do. ---------- There is one rule for the industrialist and that is: Make the best quality of goods possible at the lowest cost possible, paying the highest wages possible. ---------- Time and money spent in helping men to do more for themselves is far better than mere giving. ---------- Time and money spent in helping men to do more for themselves is far better than mere giving. ---------- You don't build a reputation on what you're going to do.

| Icing Queen ![]() | ![]() Omar N. Bradley, a World War II general, the first chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, last five-star general (1950) (2/12/1893-4/8/1981) Bravery is the capacity to perform properly even when scared half to death. ---------- I am convinced that the best service a retired general can perform is to turn in his tongue along with his suit and to mothball his opinions. ---------- If we continue to develop our technology without wisdom or prudence, our servant may prove to be our executioner. ---------- Leadership is intangible, and therefore no weapon ever designed can replace it. ---------- The world has achieved brilliance without wisdom, power without conscience. Ours is a world of nuclear giants and ethical infants. ---------- Set your course by the stars, not by the lights of every passing ship. ---------- This is as true in everyday life as it is in battle: we are given one life and the decision is ours whether to wait for circumstances to make up our mind, or whether to act, and in acting, to live. --------- Wars can be prevented just as surely as they can be provoked, and we who fail to prevent them, must share the guilt for the dead. ---------- We have grasped the mystery of the atom and rejected the sermon on the mount. An interesting site: Omar Nelson Bradley, General of the Army Known by his troops in World War II as "The Soldier's General" because of his care of and compassion for those soldiers under his command. He graduated from West Point, just missing service in World War I. At the outset of World War II he was a training officer and felt he would miss involvement in another World War until he was assigned to the European Theater. There he served for a period under General George S. Patton, Jr., prior to taking command of the United States Army Group, the largest single command ever held by an American general officer. In 1950 he was promoted to 5-star General-of-the-Army rank, served as Army Chief of Staff and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He also served as leader of the Veterans Administration. He is buried in Section 30, near many other World War II leaders. Time Line: Bradley Bio

| Icing Queen ![]() | ![]() Joseph Pulitzer American Publisher, Posthumously established the Pulitzer Prize (4/10/1847-10/29/1911) A cynical, mercenary, demagogic press will in time produce a people as base as itself. ---------- An able, disinterested, public-spirited press, with trained intelligence to know the right and courage to do it, can preserve that public virtue without which popular government is a sham and a mockery. ---------- I am deeply interested in the progress and elevation of journalism, having spent my life in that profession, regarding it as a noble profession and one of unequaled importance for its influence upon the minds and morals of the people. ---------- I desire to assist in attracting to this profession young men of character and ability, also to help those already engaged in the profession to acquire the highest moral and intellectual training. ---------- I would rather have one article a day of this sort; and these ten or twenty lines might readily represent a whole day's hard work in the way of concentrated, intense thinking and revision, polish of style, weighing of words. ---------- Our Republic and its press will rise or fall together. ---------- Publicity, publicity, publicity is the greatest moral factor and force in our public life. ---------- Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it and, above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light. ---------- The power to mould the future of the Republic will be in the hands of the journalists of future generations.

| Icing Queen ![]() | Classic Quotes by Edward Everett (4/11/1794-1865) American educator What subsists today by violence, continues tomorrow by acquiescence, and is perpetuated by tradition, till at last the hoary abuse shakes the grayhairs of antiquity at us, and gives itself out as the wisdom of ages. --------------- All the distinctive features and superiority of our republican institutions are derived from the teachings of Scripture. --------------- For consider, my friends, what would have been the consequences to the country, to yourselves, and to all you hold dear, if those who sleep beneath our feet, and their gallant comrades who survive to serve their country on other fields of danger, had failed in their duty on those memorable days. --------------- God bless the Union; - it is dearer to us for the blood of brave men which has been shed in its defence. --------------- I feel, as never before, how justly, from the dawn of history to the present time, men have paid the homage of their gratitude and admiration to the memory of those who nobly sacrifice their lives, that their fellow-men may live in safety and in honor. --------------- Education is a better safeguard of liberty than a standing army. --------------- I am only one, But still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; And because I cannot do everything I will not refuse to do the something that I can do.

| Icing Queen ![]() | ![]() Franklin D. Roosevelt (1/30/1882-4/12/1945) Thirty-Second President 1933-1945 In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happened, you can bet it was planned that way. ---------- Knowledge -- that is, education in its true sense -- is our best protection against unreasoning prejudice and panic-making fear, whether engendered by special interest, illiberal minorities, or panic-stricken leaders. ---------- The creed of our democracy is that liberty is acquired and kept by men and women who are strong and self-reliant, and possessed of such wisdom as God gives mankind -- men and women who are just, and understanding, and generous to others -- men and women who are capable of disciplining themselves. For they are the rulers and they must rule themselves. ---------- If the fires of freedom and civil liberties burn low in other lands, they must be made brighter in our own. If in other lands the press and books and literature of all kinds are censored, we must redouble our efforts here to keep them free. If in other lands the eternal truths of the past are threatened by intolerance, we must provide a safe place for their perception. ---------- A man who has never gone to school may steal from a freight car, but if he has a university education he may steal the whole railroad. ---------- The saving grace of America lies in the fact that the overwhelming majority of Americans are possessed of two great qualities -- a sense of humor and a sense of proportion. ---------- It is a good thing to demand liberty for ourselves and for those who agree with us, but it is a better thing and a rarer thing to give liberty to others who do not agree with us. ---------- The truth is found when men are free to pursue it.

| Icing Queen ![]() | Classic Quotes by Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) American president A Bill of Rights is what the people are entitled to against every government, and what no just government should refuse, or rest on inference. --------------- A coward is much more exposed to quarrels than a man of spirit. --------------- A democracy is nothing more than mob rule, where fifty-one percent of the people may take away the rights of the other forty-nine. --------------- A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor and bread it has earned - this is the sum of good government. --------------- Advertisements contain the only truths to be relied on in a newspaper. --------------- All the world would be Christian if they were taught the pure Gospel of Christ! --------------- All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent. --------------- All, too, will bear in mind this sacred principle, that though the will of the majority is in all cases to prevail, that will to be rightful must be reasonable; that the minority possess their equal rights, which equal law must protect, and to violate would be oppression. --------------- An association of men who will not quarrel with one another is a thing which has never yet existed, from the greatest confederacy of nations down to a town meeting or a vestry. --------------- An enemy generally says and believes what he wishes. --------------- At last now you can be what the old cannot recall and the young long for in dreams, yet still include them all.
