A morning steeped in humbleness.

My six year old grandaughter is in the first grade. The school she attends had a 5 or 6 hour day designed for their parents and grandparents that had served in the Armed Services, to come when you pleased and let them honor you.

There were several there in her class, we all had to say a word or two, then we went to the library for refereshments.

As I looked around at some of the old hands, I knew many, if not most, had seen combat. To be in the company of such men is a very humbling experience for me, as it always has been.

That is awesome Shooter. Citizenship is not taught in public school, it is taboo to be a good citizen.

That is a good thing her school is doing! It lets them see real people who are a part of the history of our country, as well as honoring the vets.

True, my friend, unless the criteria meats the Accept Any Concept theory.

Her mother, ( my daughter ) and her husband own and operate a two year old through kindergarten day school. The emphasis placed is on God, Country, Patriotism, and Citizenship. Their end of year program always has a very patriotic theme, and the little ones are awesome in what they pick up and can do. I know parents that use their service make sacrifices to enroll them in the school. All four of her children went to just such a school, ( Cheryl and Paul bought the school ) and the kids have always been above grade level once into elementtary school.

The community in which Cheryl and Paul reside, at one time was probably the most racist community around, but lordy, times have changed. It is amazing how the town has changed and is growing. Patriotism, though sometimes misguided and misplaced, has always been a hallmark of that small community and I thought the morning was a grand gesture towards all us Old F*arts.

Our Legion/VFW honor guard has been invited to a grade school on Veterans Day for several years. This year we are invited to 3 of them. The kids bring their veteran parents if they can. They put on a little program and sing songs. When its over, we go out and raise the flag, fire a rifle salute and play taps.

That's wonderful, Drywall. It helps instill in those little ones a quality, I'm sure, some will never recieve at home. A reverance for our flag and ideals. My humble thanks to you and your VFW/American Legion.
