| Junior Officer ![]() | It's tough being retired, especially when living in Las Vegas means never having to worry about the streets rolling up at 8 P/M. Tonight my son & his wife are taking us out to see the comedy of Carrot Top. The 14th. two free tickest to see John Michael Montgomery, the 17th. comp entrace to see an advance screening of Flicka starring Tim McGraw then because of a nice win at Green Valley Ranch casino we have comp tickets to see Bill Engvall on the 21st. Pure luck playing a Game King slot machine at Green Valley Ranch Casino. The machine I chose are triple or five play kind. Imagine having several hundred slot machines to choose from. Then picking the right poker game from a list like this on a Game King machine. The 10 game choices per machine are. Poker, Jacks or Better, Bonus Poker, Dueces Wild, Joker Poker, Bonus Dueces Wild, Double Bonus Poker, Super Double Bonus Poker. Triple Bonus Poker & Super Aces. The pay outs vary per game with Super Double & Super Aces paying the best if a Royal Flush doesn't come out when playing. For those that don't play triple or five play slot poker, whatever is dealt on the bottom hand is also what will be on the hands above it. The bottom hand costs $1.25 so for Triple play 25 cents bet equals $3.75 per bet. Five play equals $6.25 per bet. Payouts are determined just like in 5 card stud. A pair pays the lowest up to a Royal flush pays the highest. 4 of a kind pays the next highest. The exception is as noted Super Double & Super Aces. Super Double pays 600 coins on 4 face cards or 800 coins on 4 aces. The poker game super aces pays 2000 coins on 4 aces. The chance to win $150.00 to $500.00 per hand makes these games more attractive. My luck was by playing five play Super Aces max bet, & being dealt 4 aces on the bottom line. The math on that comes out to a $2500.00 win. The winnings are taxable but are not part of living expenses so the nights were going out to shows we'll have some extra cash to have fun with. This is going to be a tough year for taxes because the wins don't have any taxes taken out. This isn't the 1st. win just one of the more fun ones that look good on a screen filled with cards. A single line Royal Flush on a $5.00 per hand slot machine just isn't as impressive even though it pays a lot more.

| Junior Officer ![]() | I hadn't looked at it that way. With only a high school education and always planning I took retirement at age 54 as a given. I thought if I worked for 34 years in my adult life I should if in good health be able to live work free for 34 years. Naturally living where cold weather would keep me indoors 6 months out of the year didn't fit the plan. Neither did a retirement village where bingo or other sedentary types of activity were the norm. Everyone dreams of retirement but few plan what it will be like. We did all the foreign travel we ever wanted and most of the travel within America. We still have a few major National Parks to hike but in the meantime life has to be more than getting up, & eating. Retiring at age 65 scared the be-jezus out of me. Typically 12 years are left according to the acturial tables. 1/3 of that time or 4 years is spent sleeping. Living where ice & snow would keep us inside looking out cuts the remaining 8 years to having 4 years to enjoy something. I like hectic and in about 2 hours we'll be going out for champange brunch and to spend some of that win.

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | Well, I was being facetious. I don't mind being in. There are relatively few places foreign that I am anxious to visit. A couple, because of having friends there. However, I retired at 64˝, and am now 76, with no intention or sign of death hovering about. And only a few months to go! Brian, I should come and gamble at your tables out there. I seem to be beating the odds. And Bob even more so, but he retired at 59 when his company went belly up. He'll be 81 in December. And active still - in many ways.

![]() | Congrats on your win...! Growing up in Vegas I never really gave much thought to gambling, even the night I turned 21 I doubt I spent much more than $20 playing black jack. I did pick up Texas Hold-Em Poker in College, but most of the gambling I did was over at friends’ homes where we had a $10 buy-in. GVR is definitely a great time. I don’t think I could count the number of nights I stumbled out Fados at 2 or 3 am after a night of music and drinking Guinness. The restaurants inside were also always pretty good. Definitely beats going down to the strip, and the “district” seemed really nice last time I was in town. People think it’s a bit odd when I say I am from Las Vegas, I just shrug. Having called it home for the better part of 15 years, it seems just right to me.

| Icing Queen ![]() | I never win, so I quit going! I went to the casino once last year. They had new games that I had no idea how to play. The place is always crowded, so I had to wait to play. It's not worth it to me anymore. My youngest sister wins every time she goes...$500, $800, $1200......

Having night life then stumbling out at 2 or 3 am and being able to find steak & eggs toast, and coffee for a $1.99 isn't found in all the cities where I've lived. Or having access to snow skiing or jet skiing less than 100 miles apart isn't found in many places. That deosn't even come close to all the other entertainment possibilities available 24/7. Not a good place to raise kids or at least I wouldn't recommend it. But it sure beats living in a retirement community where you feel like your sitting in God's waiting room.
