| unrepentant grunt   |  When to put your Stripes Back on ! As most of you know I just took my daughter Gwen back to College for her final year as an undergrad. I did not book any rooms in advance nor did I have a set schedule. This is rare for me as I am known to plan ahead for any trip. As it turned out I got a room at the Travel Lodge in Santa Cruz, ( Nice Place by the way). A few doors down there was a young man. By his haircut and posture I knew he was a Troop. I was right he was a Grunt just back from the Sandbox 2nd tour type. We talked and I found out that he was just 22 an E-5 and liked the Army. He had never been to California and was here to see what was up. We drank a few beers and I let him in on a few of the places to go in town. That night I was in Downtown Santa Cruz with Gwen and her Boyfriend. I wanted a drink so we stopped at this place popular with the college kids. Well there was the Troop taking a bunch of lip service from a group of young people. I told Gwen and Colby to take a seat. I went to the bar and got a couple bottles of Bud and walked over to the troop. I handed one to him and he just looked at me with a slight smile. One of the kiddies made a remark about Army fu*k's should not be allowed in there Bar. Well I kinda did not like the remark one bit. I turned on the little SOB and in my Parade Ground Voice informed him that if it were not for Troops marbe they would not have a nice place to go and drink, infact they might not have a college to go to nor the right to think about witty remarks like the one he just uttered. I went on to advise this whole group of young people that they had the right to say just about anything they want. However I had the right to take exception to what they said. ( I had Bail Money In My Pocket ). Well one of the Bra stuffers said that there was no need to get all upset, I fixed my eyes on her and said who's upset I am not upset I am totally Pissed Off. I told her that to get me un-pissed off they should leave and find another place to get drunk. As they got up to leave one of the kids turned and started to say something. I held up my hand and told him to go before I suffered a flashback and wrecked his day. After they left We went over to Gwen and Colby's table. I told them that me and the troop was gonna see a little of the town. Well I will tell you that by 0100 hours we were 2 drunk troops. F. Beast

I bet both of the troop had a great time - and that the unbelievably liberal Santa Cruz locals did not disturb your time one little bit more as you went through town. Your best quality, in my mind, is your loyalty to your troop - past and present tense. |

Wish you could have been there (we as well!) when on 11 September this one university's 9/11 "discussion" descended into a total America Bash Fest. Don't these young MORONS realize where they live? If they think it's bad here, they can move to Afghanistan, Angola or Ethiopia for all I care, just GET the FARQ OUT! When DOES free speech border upon treason, anyway?
