Default "Pappy" Boyington Fought for USA But He’s Not Honorable

The story was posted on 14 February, but I wanted share the story and spread the word.

University of Washington’s student senate refused to accept or acknowledge to honor one of their alumni World War II Medal of Honor Recipient and hero Gregory "Pappy" Boyington of the "Black Sheep" fame. They felt it was inappropriate to pay tribute to man who shot down enemy planes, and that kind of person is not suitable to represent the university.
According to of a meeting of the student senate, Jill Edwards a student senator, "didn't believe a member of the Marine Corps was an example of the sort of person UW wanted to produce."

Another senator, Ashley Miller, asserted "many monuments at UW already commemorate rich white men."

Karl Smith another senate member who revised the declaration to omit a provision stating Boyington acknowledging he shot down 26 enemy planes, connecting the account for "most aircraft" demolished by a U.S. military pilot. Boyington earned and was a recipient of the Navy Cross.

As reported in the minutes, the proclamation ought to express approval of Boyington's miltary service and not the killing of people or rather the enemy.

For the rest of the story check out Students reject honor to "Baa Black Sheep" hero
http://www.wnd.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=48808

Moonbat Ashley Miller stated, "that there are already enough monuments at UW commemorating rich white men." Apparently she doesn't know anything about World War II history and bothered to find out who Gregory "Pappy" Boyington was, as well as knowing his nationality an American Indian, a Sue born Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, 4 December 1912. Boyington came from humble beginnings and he had a tough childhood. His parents were divorced and his step-father was an alcoholic. In 1926 his family moved to Tacoma, Washington. After high school he enrolled at the University of Washington in 1930, continued wrestling, a sport he took up during high school, and participated in ROTC. Boyington graduated in 1934, Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering. While he attended college, he met his first wife Helen, and they married shortly after he graduated. Their first child, Gregory Clark Boyington.

During summer vacation Boyington worked mining camp or a logging camp in his native state Idaho. Aqlso, Boyington worked road construction and did look out for the Coeur d'Alene Fire Protective Association
Boyington began his aviation career after accepting an appointment as a cadet in the Marine Corps Reserve on 18 February 1936. His flight training was at Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Florida. He became a Naval Aviator on 11 March 1937, and was reassigned to Quantico, Virginia, Aircraft One, Fleet Marine Force. 1 July 1937 Boyinton was discarged from the Marine Corps Reserve so he could accept a second commission in the regular Marine Corps.

After completing Basic School in Philadelphia July 1938 Boyington was assigned to the 2d Marine Aircraft Group, San Diego Naval Air Stationt. He and his unit particpated in fleet operations of the carriers USS Lexington and Yorktown.

4 November 1940, Boyington was promoted to first lieutenant and he retruned to Pensacola as an instructor.

26 August 1941 Boyington abdicated abdicated his in the Marines so he could assume a job with the Central Aircraft Manufacturing Company an organization established to protect the Burma Road. Later on, CAMCO became the American Volunteer Group known as the famous "Flying Tigers." Greg 'Pappy' Boyington in the AVG Flying Tigers http://www.warbirdforum.com/gregboy.htm

Following Boyinton's stint with the "Flying Tigers, in April 1943, he flew combat missions at Guadalcanal as an Executive Officer of Marine Fighting Squadron 121. However, Boyington didn't have kills or shot down enemy planes at that time, but later on he did. During the blood-and-guts activity the Russell Islands-New Georgia and Bougainville-New Britain-New Ireland areas, Boyington got his nickanme "Pappy" because of his age which was 31.

Boyington joined Marine Aircraft Group 11 of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing and became Commanding Officer of Marine Fighting Squadron 214 after brief tour in the Solomons with a different squadron. The freshly formed squadron composed of free-and-easy, rookies, and replacements and the unit was nicknamed the "Black Sheep" Squadron. Our Back Pages Pappy Boyington http://www.washington.edu/alumni/col...pages1298.html, From Flying tigers to the black Sheep, in the tracks of Gregory Boyington http://www.flyandrive.com/blacksheep2.htm

Boyington and the "Black Sheep" took off from Bougainville for a combat mission over Rabaul. He was the tactical commander of the flight landing at Rabaul at 8 a.m. The resulting action Boyington was sent to shoot down his 26th enemy plane. During the he intermingled battle royal of diving and swooping planes. Consdquently he became a POW and Boyington was declared MIA. During his imprisonment, Boyington was promoted to lieutenant colonel. 29 August 1945 he as liberated from the Omori Prison Camp in the Tokyo area, returning the the States. 6 September 1945 Boyington accepted his rank of temporary lieutenant colonel. After his release it was affirmed Boyington had shot down two Japanese aircraft prior to his plane being shot down and taken prisoner. Gregory Pappy Boyington - Black Sheep Squadron C.O. Boyington died in 1988 from cancer, and his is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.

Boyington is an outstanding example of overcoming adversity and making something out of himself. Miller and Edwards are spoiled college students who probably lived the good life, and their parents are paying for their education.

Every man and women who were in the Marines, they served pride, and the Marines who fought in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Gulf War I, Operation Enduring Freedom, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Jill Edwards jae6@u.washington.edu a member of the student senate believes Marines are not worthy to be a graduate of the University of Washington, and she the suitableness of bestowing honor of a memorial to "Pappy" Gregory Boyington and a member of the Marine Corps was not a model for the kind of person the university wanted to bring out because he killed other people, the Japanese.

She and Ashley Miller is another example of how of the anarchists of the anti Vietnam War protest movement managed to brainwash a generation. In a way, you can say they actually overthrew the government and the American way of life. Those two and a good deal of today's youth live in la la land and are blind goose stepping followers of the leftist dreamers. Edwards and Miller don't have a clue what World War II was all about and the men who fought and died. And they certainly have no idea what America faced when we were attacked on 7 December 1941. Jill Edwards and Ashley Miller are an embarrassment to the University of Washington, and they are stuck on stupid.

Boyington merits honor for his service and his part in helping America win the war. Because of him and scores of other servicemen and women made it possible for the freedoms we enjoy, and including Edwards, Miller and the students of the University of Washington.

Edwards and Miller, as well as the students of the university have not gained or acquired through merit the liberty of speaking for Boyington, and it seems like some of the students have not learned about Boyington. He and many other men were common joe blows who demonstrated exceptional bravery when they encountered hardships. What has Edwards, Miller and representatives of the student body, as well as the rest of the college students, what have they done for America, and the compatriots who come close to remarkable boldness shown by Boyington and the men who fought in World War II?

Check out this thing I got today. What is up with this?http://senate.asuw.org/secretary/senminutes.shtml
Quote:
HE FOUGHT FOR OUR COUNTRY ... BUT HE'S NOT WORTHY.

His name was Gregory Boyington. Some called him "Pappy." He served as a combat pilot in World War II with the 1st Squadron, American Volunteer Group. This squadron was known as the Flying Tigers of China. Boyington later served as a combat pilot for the U.S. Marine Corps. He commanded Marine Fighting Squadron 214. Perhaps you've heard of this squadron. It was called the Black Sheep Squadron and was later featured in a TV series called "Baa Baa, Black Sheep." Boyington shot down 26 Japanese aircraft while serving in the Pacific. He was later shot down and spent 20 months in a Japanese POW camp. For those of you who aren't up to par on World War II history, Japanese POW camps were not happy places. Torture .. .and we mean real torture, not stripping them naked and taking snapshots. After the war Pappy Boyington was awarded the Navy Cross and the Medal of Honor. He died in 1988. You can visit his grave in Arlington National Cemetery.
Education? Oh yes! Almost forgot! Pappy Boyington was a graduate of the University of Washington. Just recently the idea of erecting a memorial to this Medal of Honor winner at the University of Washington made its way to the student senate. Here you have an alumnus who served in World War II. was captured and held, and was later awarded the Medal of Honor and the Navy Cross. Perhaps some sort of monument would be a good idea!

Well .. not to Jill Edwards. Thanks to the folks at WorldNetDaily we can show you a copy of the minutes of a meeting of the student senate at the University of Washington. Under old business there was a discussion of a resolution calling for a tribute to Pappy Boyington. Student senate member Jill Edwards immediately moved to table the resolution. She wanted other issues to be considered. Another member said that the issue was at the top of the agenda and should be dealt with. Jill's motion failed, but she wasn't through. There was then some discussion on why Andrew Everett, another student senate member, wanted the memorial. Everett responded that Colonel Boyington "had many of the qualities the University of Washington hoped to produce in its students." Well, I guess that might be true, if leadership and courage are considered to be good qualities. Anyway ... that's when Jill Edwards spoke up and showed her true colors. She questioned whether it was appropriate to honor a person who killed other people. Then the lovely Jill Edwards said that a member of the Marine Corps was not an example of the sort of person the University of Washington wanted to produce.

Shall I repeat that? Jill Edwards, a Junior in Mathematics at the University of Washington, says that a U.S. Marine is not --- that's right, NOT the example of the sort of person that the University of Washington wants to produce. Let's let this sink in. To all of you men and women out there who have served with pride in the United States Marine Corps; to those of you who fought in World War II, Korea, Vietnam and the Middle East, Jill Edwards, student senate member at the University of Washington, thinks that you are unworthy to be graduates of the University of Washington. I think that Jill Edwards is an ignorant fool. I would submit that Jill Edwards is am embarrassment to the University of Washington. With her mathematics degree and her leftist outlook on life my guess is that she'll end up being a teacher in a government school. Oh goody.

By the way .. there's at least one more moonbat on the U of W student senate. Her name is Ashley Miller. Ashley says that there are already enough monuments at UW commemorating "rich white men." Well .. I guess you have to get that wealth-envy stuff in there somewhere.

Don't you just love these young people? They're so much fun to watch during those magic years when they know everything and when they have all of the answers to every problem facing mankind. As I said the other day, we should take 100 volunteer members of university student senates from across the country --- and let's make sure Jill Edwards is one of them --- and give them a country to run for four years. Haiti would do just fine.
Makes you want to slap the taste out of their mouths!

That old 'hate the soldier' crap that was so prevalent during the 60's/70's is rearing its head on the campuses again.

These people have no respect for what they have and how it came to be. If it was'nt for people like Pappy it would be a very real possability we would be goose stepping now. I do respect the opinions of others, but these girls need to get with it quick. I say they go to student exchange in Iraq or Iran. Let them voice their opinions there. I'm sure they will change their vision and opinions of the world. If not, we won't have to worry about them because more likley then not they will be a victim of the real world.

Default Re: "Pappy" Boyington Fought for USA But He’s Not Honorable

As a side note...I have a most cherished book, "Baa-Baa Black Sheep" by Pappy Boyington. It is signed to L/Cpl Paul Steinhoff. My dad went to the OshKosh EAA airshow, met him and had it signed for me while I was stationed in Kaneohe bay, Oahu, Hawaii, the year before Pappy died.

The degeneartes of Washington State have ZERO clue of their past history, due to the liberal pc rennovation of their uber-utopian hippy version of how they THINK that the paste events should have been seen.

If you ask my M-I-L, who lived in Venlo, Holland, SHE would tell you in no uncertain terms of what she thinks of the German Nazis.

Our beloved Marine Aviator, Pappy Boyington also kept us from speaking Nipponese as well.

Once again....just because you go to college doesn't mean you come away any smarter....
