Of course the teens feel it's the real thing. They fall 'in love' easily. That's why there are laws to protect them.

People do mature at different ages, I suppose - but avoiding sexual contact would be one expression of maturity when true love exists and one partner is so young, I'd think.

As we reach adulthood, of course, it does seem the intervening years are of little importance, at least until old age sets in on the older partner, and again, that depends on the genes of both partners.

My mother's second husband was 20 years her junior. They were married when she was 60 and he 40; they were married 28 years when he died - she lived to be 99, still missing and loving him. They were compatible and happy all the years they had together. Age is only part of a relationship; but it is part of it.

Maybe we need some input here from DocDiggs, who I believe has the widest knowledge among us in this field. Especially since this particular story is of teens and this is his field of expertise.

Doing the Teaching thing in a College I can say for a fact that there were several young ladies interested in more than the education. I brushed them off sometimes a bit too directly. However I know of many instances where a Prof both Male and Female had a fling with a Student. I am not in favor of it, but never said anything. I felt that the Students were over 18 and that was that. What used to boil my behind were that small number of Students who wanted to make a grade on there backs. ( Yes I had a few of those offers ).

Teachers have the responsibility to make sure that (below) doesn't happen.

Dr Sikes argues that the change in the law in 2003 which criminalises sexual relationships between pupils and teachers if the pupil is under the age of 18, inevitably labels students as victims, when they can frequently be the instigators of genuine relationships.

They should require that all persons, that are in a position to develop relationships with children under the age of 18 or still in high school, to take a course in the fragile state of a child's emotions. They could call the course:

"Just Say No To Sexual Intercourse With A Child"
