I don't know if that is an actual picture of the battle axes, or a spoof, but they actually did manage to get alcohol banned in this country. Basically religious fanatics forcing it on the rest of the people.

Hey now....whoa there. Jesus turned the water into wine at the wedding. The only thing the Bible preaches is that you shouldn't do it to an excess...you should do ANYTHING to an excess....when something becomes more important in your life than God, that's not good. A Christian should be careful not to grieve the Holy Spirit. Having a glass of wine or two at dinner with a good friend....fine....getting drunk at a work Christmas party and doing a stripteeze on a table top, bad. (but good black mail material when it's the boss

They still make wine in Cana - or near there. Not too bad either, if you drink it while in Cana. It doesn't travel well.

I brought a bottle home for our oldest son's wedding - just one bottle for the bride and groom's table. It turned bad, and one of this ushers went about asking, "Is there anyone here who can turn wine into water?"

They used their religion, Vicky and I never could understand why they took that stance when turning water into wine was Jesus' first miracle. That was the basis of the Prohibition movement.

As a Roman Catholic, I heard a lot about how we were going to hell for drinking alcohol (among other reasons) and using real wine during Mass. Never could see how religion could be used to condemn social drinking, but it was and is.
