I'll add

Mrs. Robert E. Lee ~ The Lady of Arlington
John Perry.

It is an excellent biogrpahy taken from the prayer journals of Mrs. Lee and other historical information. It gives new insite into the Civil War, why Robert E. Lee left the north before the war to fight for the south, and it reminds us that the war wasn't about slavery---despite what the history books tell us. In fact, Mrs. freed them and some she retained as "hired help".

Great book!

Jacket cover:

For over a century she has stood in the shadow of her famous husband. Now she steps into the light. She had lsaves...yet freed them before emancipation. She spurned the dashing young Sam Houston to marry an unknown army lieutenant. She owned one of the most famous mansions in America...yet died homeless.

Mary Custis Lee was a woman of contrasts-- a woman with a will of iron whose faith in God sustained her through years of separation from her husband, the deaths of two children, the heartbreaking transformation of her magninficent estate into a military cemetery (Arlington National Cemetery). Based on perviously unpublished private journals and letters spanning half a century, Mrs. Robert E. Lee unveils the story of an articulate, passionate and selfless patriot worthy of her heritage as the great-granddaughter of Martha Washington and cosort to one of the most revered military leaders in American history.
