| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | The canary islands are volcanic. Went on the tour of the island, saw thae lava beds. Last major eruption 1823. Lasted 19 years. The volcano is still live, saw some experiments, they throw water down a pipe in the ground 4 metres deep, it hits the lava underneath and explodes in a burst of steam. There is a resyurant that uses a 3 feet wide hole to barbeque its food (free energy). The most horrific part of the journey was the bus trip round the seven volcanos. We were driving around narrow winding roads, only 10 feet wide, on a bus. The hill on either side was 300 to 400 feet deep into a volcano or gorge on the other side. Can you imagine the front of the bus being over fresh air, whilst the wheel lock is full on turning on the narrow road. I prayed to God like I never prayed before. I thought I was gone. You are actually over nothing, the wheels must only catch the last few inches as the go round a bend full lock. My stomache has still not recovered fully. Probably this bus trip would not be allowed in the UK or the States. It is far too dangerous. A slight misjudement by the driver, a slight crumbling of the lava edge to the narrow track road, and it is the end for a 50 seater bus tour. In a fairground ride, eg, rollercoaster you have tracks to hold you on, there are no tracks here, not barriers. I admit it, I was terrified, it was more frightening than the worst white knuckle rides. What a rush!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | Almost forgot. Lanzarote is the film set of the 1960/70īs Spegetti Western movies: A Fistfull of Dollars, For a few dollars more, The Good, the bad and the Ugly, etc, etc. Yous see these barren flat plains, with mountainous backgrounds, covered in volcanic ash. Resembles the setting of a new southern State boundarying on Mexico. Cacti included. You can picture Clint Eastwood just coming round one of the ash covered dunes. |

| Head Zookeeper ![]() | I guess they don't give out all the details of the drive before you get on the bus! Sounds like a neat place, I had no idea that those spaghetti weaterns were filmed there, interesting addition to the story. 19 years, wow, that's a long time.

| Racy Ol' Lady ![]() | I've been on some "exciting" mountain roads in the Holy Land, Tommy - but that beats anything I've ever heard of. I've just "X'd out" the Canary Islands as a place to visit. They can keep it! But I bet you will enjoy telling about it once your stomach settles, as Connie says! A wonderful and exciting - memory! Go somewhere else next year, that's my advice! I'm glad you all made it.
