PORT Standing on the centerline of a vessel, facing the bow, or forward, everything to the left of the ship’s centerline is to port. 9. LANDLUBBER A person who had never been at sea. 10. GUNWALE (Pronounced “gunnel”) The above water edge of an open boat. 11. FANTAIL Stern area of the main deck. 12. CAPSIZE To turn upside down, and usually, to sink.
