| Enlisted ![]() | Hi all, I know its been ages since I last posted-Life during the summer months gets crazy for me-I own and run my own Gardening busisness.I am not sure if this is posted in the right place- feel free to move it if need be. Thanks in advance to anyone who would like to help. MaryEllen-Proud mom of a Deployed Marine Hi Everyone, I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday weekend. I sent out an email earlier about my idea for the Marines. I would like to raise enough money to buy a camelback for each Marine in this deployment. I also know we have some parents whose Marine has been attached. Those Marines will also receive one. A camelback is a water reservoir that they wear on their backs. It has a tube that extends to the front and they can drink water from it. Just considering the climate, I thought it would be a very useful item. Many parents have emailed and asked how they can help. We need to fund raise. This is not required of you at all. Your Marine will receive a camelback. Basically its by word of mouth. Thats how I did it last year. Talk to your family, friends, business associates. I found out last year that the American People want to do something for our military. It gives them a sense of pride in being able to help. I have asked Paul Newman's charity foundation for a donation. I haven't heard back yet. I have a friend who is in marketing and she will approach her clients. We are talking a large amount -- more than last year. Camelbacks are anywhere from $40.00 to $45.00 each. We want to buy 1,000. I dream big. I think it would be totally awesome to be able to pull this project off. I will be talking to the Corporation that makes them and see what kind of bulk rate discount I can get. I will also have them ship straight to the Marines. No sense in paying postage twice. I cannot write a letter requesting donations. My role as a KVA prohibits me from fund-raising. Last year I did it anyway. I just have to be careful as to where my name goes. This project will be sponsored by "Proud Parents of Marines" and not be me. The gift will be from the Parents, not me. Lets call it "Project Camelback". So when asking for donations, you may say who it is sponsored by, the name of it, and explain what camelbacks are and why they would need them in the climate of Middle East. Start working collecting and keep me posted on donations. I will open an account for the project and everyone will be able to mail their proceeds directly to the bank. Actually, thinking about it, Laurie's husband hosts a radio show in Houston and he will be requesting donations on the air. I may ask them to be a base for collecting the monies -- that way its not in my name. Another choice would be Steve and Linda B. They helped last year immensely with the Pillowcase project. I have all the faith and trust in the world for them. Steve B. is a retired LTC from the Marine Corps. Once we have collected the funds, I'll contact the Corporation, the check will be written directly from the account and mailed to the Corporation. At that time the account would be closed. My name should not be on the account. All they can do is fire me and yell at me. But not to cause any problems, lets have someone else manage the account. I welcome on all comments, tips, advise from anyone who may have more experience at this than I do. I know this is a huge undertaking. Let's stay optimistic and we'll get it done.
