The madness of a Geordie student, r/c mechanic, web designer, guitarist and martial artist!
End of an Era

Well, as some of you already know, my time at the University of Huddersfield is now over. No, I haven't graduated, I've dropped out. Theres a lot of reasons but the biggest were the course and the department. Having lecturers who don't speak English, massive assignments (worth around half of the module) due in at the same time, lecturers who wouldn't speak to each other about what they're teaching and a department who wont admit theres something wrong even though half of the students are dropping out.
In general though, I just wasn't comfortable on a course where the only assignment relating to the course title (Motorsport Technology) was a small simulation assignment designing a track and sending a car round it. Two years, one motorsport assignment. Not good.
So, I've called it a day there. I was getting more and more annoyed and stressed as it went on and it was starting to get bad for my health. I went from eating fairly healthily (as I have done for most of my life) to living on pizza and takeaway thanks to assignments. Aye, thats the usual student diet but not mine. Getting to bed at 1am then getting up at noon was starting to do my head in too. Not good.
I'm now back at home and will be looking for a job for a year.
Why a year? Because I need to get £3000 to pay my tuition fees for the first year of another degree. This one should be better suited to me and put me into teaching when I graduate: Course details: Contemporary Military and International History | Course finder | University of Salford - A Greater Manchester University
Current plan is get a job, get the tuition fees, get my driving test done and possibly even get a passport and a holiday at some point. Hopefully.
Theres a few good things about being back at home, #1 being training. I'm eligible for nidan in December and need to get a heck of a lot done. Top of that list is getting my general fitness up without killing my knees (that are taking a fair beating from riding my bike too much) and making sure my techniques are spot on. Learning another advanced kata is up there and learning to referee is too.
