Default Would Lou Gehrig have caught the Babe?

WHAT IF Lou Gehrig had never gotten sick?? Would Lou Gehrig have been
the all-time Home Run Champ by overtaking Babe Ruth's 714 career home
runs? What other career stats would Lou have accumulated?

Lou Gehrig wasn't yet 36 years old when he played his final game in
1939. Yet, from 1926-1938, Lou was on a "tear" in terms of batting
production. He knocked in over 100 runs each year, and was certainly on
a "pace" to catch the babe if he could have hung on another 5-6 years.

There is no doubt that Lou Gehrig would have been the ALL TIME RBI
leader. Lou already had 1,995 RBIs when he retired. If he had stayed
healthy, I doubt if even Hank Aaron would have caught up to Gehrig's
lifetime RBI total.

3,000 hits? No problem. Lou had already hit over 200 hits in a season a
total of 8 TIMES (something often overlooked in baseball history), and
had 2,721 hits when he retired (and a lifetime 340 average).

I doubt if Lou Gehrig would have been called to military service in
1941 at the outbreak of World War 2 (at the age of 3Cool.

What if Gehrig had lived? Any thoughts?

What do you guys think?

'Twas Tue, 18 Oct 2005 1618 +0000 when all alt.sports.baseball stood
in awe as kirby.wetherell@realcredits.com uttered:

If Bill Walton wasn't born with small calves and ankles he'd be the
greatest basketball player of all time.

If Billy Barty weren't a midget he'd be a great linebacker.

If your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

Why isn't anyone talking about the great sports career I would have if I
weren't a fat klutz?
