Well Chrysler has a pretty long list of used cars to avoid. I copied the
following from CR:

Chrysler 300M '99, '03-04; Cirrus '97; Concorde '97-99, '02; LHS '97, '99;
Sebring Convertible '97, '01, '03-04; Sebring Sedan '02, '04; Town & Country
'97, '00-02; Town & Country (AWD) '98-99; Voyager '01-02
Dodge Caravan '97-98, '01-02; Caravan (4-cyl.) '99; Caravan (V6) '00; Dakota
(2WD) '97-99; Dakota (4WD) '98-02, '04; Durango '98-00; Grand Caravan '97,
'00-02; Grand Caravan (AWD) '98-99; Intrepid '97-99; Neon '97-02; Ram 1500 '97,
'02; Ram 1500 (4WD) '98-01; Ram Van/Wagon 1500 '99; Stratus (4-cyl.) '98-00;
Stratus Sedan (V6) '97, '02, '04
Jeep Grand Cherokee '97-02; Wrangler '98, '03
Plymouth Breeze '98-00; Grand Voyager '97, '00; Voyager '97-98; Voyager
(4-cyl.) '99; Voyager (V6) '00; Neon '97-00

Here are the CR reliability ratings for new Chryslers:

Chrysler 300 - Not Rated (to new)
Chrysler Sebring - Fair (Worse than average - half black circle)
Dodge Stratus - Fair
Dodge Neon - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Chrysler Crossfire - not rated
Chryler Sebring Convertible - Poor (full black circle)
Chrysler PT Cruiser - Very Good (half red circle)
Dodge Magnum - Not Rated (too new)
Chrysler T&C Mini Van - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Dodge Grand Caravan - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Jeep Liberty - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Jeep Wrangler - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Chrysler Pacifica - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Dodge Durango - Good (average - uncolored circle)
Dodge Dakota - Not Rated (too new)
Dodge Ram - Good (average - uncolored circle)

So, I guess you are right, On average Chrysler reliability is pretty much
mediocre. As I was looking through the CR information I was surprised to see
that in almost ever category, the Chrysler products were from the middle to
near the bottom of the vehicle ratings. Apparently CR is not a big Chrysler
fan.

And this is the reason I quit subscribing to their magazine. It seems
that an American company (well they were one back then) can do no
right and Honda or Toyota can do no wrong. I don't have a problem
calling a bad car a bad car but they just seem so hell bent on making
the foreign cars look perfect.

Once again as the original poster I thank all for their replies and
links posted.

While Consumer reports listed the 04 Sebring as "fair" was it, and the
Honda's in general are seen as great, I would NEVER EVER buy a honda
again, the 81 accord I had lasted the shortest amount of time ( I buy
all my cars new and keep em until they are only suited for the junk
yard ) Hondas in 81 were held in high esteem by many including
Consumer reports I'll bet. My 89 Olds has 197k now, the 86 aries
I junked last year had 170k now that F**$#$ 81 HONDA lasted till
89 when I bought the Olds. I know how to maintain a car , fix many
problems, and turn to professionals (real professionals) when
necessary.

Thanks again

I agree, Steve. And it isnt just cars. CR has been a cheerleader for a
number
of products that were absolute junk.

Most of us want something that works as it should, and that lasts. I am
afraid
CR gets too caught up in other issues.

Notwithstanding, if you read the issue it says Chrysler overall has an
average repair record. My guess is that in as much as each repair bracket
is a range and not a fixed value, even when one of their cars is in a worse
than average range, their actual survey value is close to the average value.
Otherwise Consumer Reports doesn't know how to do simple arithmetic.

CR isn't a big fan of any American car company. I stopped subscribing
years ago and would take their auto reviews with a grain of salt. I
would definitely compare them with other reviews, such as the ones
from the car mags.

Yes, I completely agree. I also stopped subscribing. I noticed a
pattern over a period of time. They always seemed to go out of their
way to nit pick the American cars reviewed and find ways to praise the
foreign cars. Over and over again. Very obvious.
