| Civilians | I have a 1994 Mazda Protege. In January, I had my mechanic replace my compresser with a rebuilt compresser (only needed it to last 1 year), New Drier/Accumulator, and switched to the R134A system. I was in heaven after driving around Texas heat for 1-1/2 years without! Then, last week, my engine started running warm. Not quite overheating. So I changed the thermostat and thermoswitch. All better! But in the mean time, discovered that the valve cover gasket that was replaced 1-1/2 years ago, was bad. My mechanic fixed at no charge. Well, the day I got it back from my mechanic, my a/c started clicking - compresser? Took it back to my mechanic and he had my car for 2 days. The first day he told me it was a bad compresser and he would replace as it is under warranty. Day 2 I am told that no, it was the compresser. How can I tell if it is the compresser? I feel like my mechanic is trying to pull one over on me to get out of doing warranty work - again! |

| Civilians | If the condensor is leaking, he can show you where the leak is .. he can use a freon sniffer to point out the leak. If you suspect him of being less than truthful, then spring the inspection on him, don't let him know you're coming over to see the leak. | Civilians | It does not cool. I get air coming out that is maybe 80 degrees. It's not enough to cool us off but it is enough if I am going down the freeway to protect us from absolutely melting. I agree with what you are saying about the condenser. It is a non-moving part and there has been no damage to it. I will take it this weekend for a 2nd opinion. Either way, if it is the condenser, he still needs to replace the faulty compresser that he installed. Thanks for your help! |

Yes "if" condensor is cracked and let freon and lube leak out it could have damage the compressor if low pressure switch was not active enoungh because the return freon lubes and cools the compreesor and when freon is low enough and if safwty switch does not protect it, it can damage it and it will not be the first time it happened either by a long shot.
