Default Coil Spring Failure

2002 Taurus SEL - Left front coil spring failed while car was sitting in
garage. Moving the car from the garage resulted in damage to the tire
(i.e.: about a 2+ foot gash just below the tread.

Ford's stand: The vehicle is no longer under warranty (92,174 kms) and
there are no recalls for this vehicle for this problem.

Ford issued a recall for the 1999-2001 Taurus for the same problem.
Vehicles in high corrosion areas (i.e.: the Maritimes) are covered by an
extended warranty (240,000 km/10-year).

Coil spring failures have also occurred with Ford Winstars, Ford F150s, and
the Ford Focus.

Cost for the replacement of left and right coil springs, a new tire, and
labor: 552.05.

Failure has been reported to Transport Canada. I have retained the parts,
if and when Transport Canada needs or wants them.

Anyone experiencing a similar failure is advised to report the matter to
Transport Canada. If enough people do so, then Transport Canada may weigh
upon Ford to issue a recall.

To the gentleman in Bradford who posted his problems with his Taurus (coil
spring failure) to the web, and to all others with the same problem with
any make or model of Ford, please contact Transport Canada (1-800-333-0510)
and file a report.

Default Re: Coil Spring Failure

Solution looking for a problem? Coil springs break. As to teh tire
damage, didn't you look to see why the side was so low? As to cost,
seems reasonable ($375 US) especially if that included a tire. That's
life.
