96 landrover making noises

My 96 landrover doesnt start in the rain and this weekend when it was
pouring, I tried to start it and of course it didnt start. And today I
started it up to check it and it now makes a wierd noise that sounds
like a constant little clanking coming from where the starter is and
it does not go away and speeds up when i push on the gas. Anyone know
what the porblem is or should I just take it to the shop?
