Default Handbreak Light Stays on - 95 Mazda 323F. UK

Hi Guys - I would really appreciate any advice.

Noticed a light on my dash this morning.
Handbrake light stays on.

I dropped the hand brake and drove - didn't really feel a big pull on the
car.
I then Pulled up the handbrake and tried to drive, really felt the pull
then, came to the conclusion that it's just the light.

I think (only think) that it's just the light as there is no drag on the
car, would it be possible that there is still a small lock on the brake ?.

I'm due to travel on a long journey tomorrow and will find it hard to get
me mechanic before that.

Any ideas on how to fix ? or even an idea of what is wrong ?

Thanks Guys.
FHarry.

It is probably telling you that you have a serious brake fault such as
one circuit having failed, the proportioning valve has a safety switch
that turns on the light when there is a single circuit failure. The
car is proably unsafe unless it is fixed.

In my experience, that is a sign the brake (or brake handle) is not
fully released. Could be as simple as needing adjustment to turn off when
properly released. Try pushing handbrake further into its 'let go'
direction & see if lite goes off. If not, better have rear brakes
inspected--for excessive wear OR/AND sticking. HTH, s

Maybe it isn't your hand break. Is it just a "brake" light, rather
than "hand brake" light? I would check my brake fluid level.
