How long is 3800 III on the market. Are there any experience with it.

Been out at least since the early 80's. Good engines except for head gasket
failures on the earlier ones. Thats what killed the Fiero, they had 3.8 and
head gasket failures. The later 3.8 suffer from intake gasket failures. Good
engines if you can keep them from leaking.

Series III just came out this year. So far, they only seem to be
making an appearance in the Pontiac's. The Impala's still have
the II version.

In my Buick Allure is the 3800 III. It was bought in November 2004
On my regal 1996 3800 II engine was stuck because water was liking into oil.

Yes, you are right. I don't know why only the Pontiac/Buick
lines got it in 2004 and the Impala's didn't. Maybe GM decided
to use up their old stock of engines in the Chev lineup.
