Default 2001 sl1 saturn 1.9L engine

I own a 2001 SL1 (1.9L)with 120,000 kms. On all other cars that i have
owned, the manufactures have always recomended replacing the timing belt
every 100,000 kms. Is this true with the SL1 or does it have a timing chain
and when does that have to be replaced. Thanks Ian

The 2001 SL1 has a timing chain, which shouldn't be changed as a regular
maintenance item.
It should only ever be replaced after failure or during an overhaul. The
Saturn 1.9 engine is freewheeling, meaning that even if the timing chain
fails, you will not damage the engine as a result. (ie. bent valves etc)

My 97 SW2 has 300+ kms on it, and the engine is still strong.

You can probably get more Saturn specific info at rec.auto.makers.saturn

Cheers,

Randy.

This vehicle has timing chain not belt. Check your coolant, oil and add gas
then drive...
