| Civilians | Here is my dilema. I went and removed the old alternator and i tried to put the new one in. My problem is there is no tension pulley like the sunbird and i even tried taking the power steering pump off to see if it had the adjustment slot. There is no way that i can see how to get the belt on the alternator. I've replaced a few in my time and this one has me stumped. Am I doing something wrong? Charley |

| Civilians | If it's a flat serpentine belt it hast to have a tensioner some where to keep it tight, I don't recall any serpentine belts using a manual adjustment on them. How did you get the belt off? "Charley Kerr" <itangel72@comcast.net> wrote in message news:M5-dnXzmYsyc-NPd4p2dnA@comcast.com... > Here is my dilema. | Civilians | It should have sort of a 'dummy' pully on it that appears to really do nothing. It will have a bolt head on it that you can then put a wrench on and move it. Eat your Wheates or get something to leverage with. It's always helpful to have a helper, but it can be done alone of course. I HATE changing 'em, so I bought the best belt I could. ![]() Tony |

| Civilians | Grasp a hold of the belt really tight and pull on it, watch the pulleys and the one that moves is the tension pulley. This is all providing that the tensioner pulley is not seized up. | Civilians | I apreciate all your help with this issue. I finally got frustrated enough to take the car in and the service tech said the middle pulley that is mounted to the head is the tension pulley and that i needed a long bar with 6 different wrenches on the end of it to do the job. I wish the chiltons manual wouldve been able to have that information in it. I know it is a useful tool but if they are going to cover a certain vehicle they should have every configuration listed inside with the tools you need "Pt3" <rfeded@nospam.com> wrote in message news:Rgy3c.82488$6K.36751@nwrddc02.gnilink.net... > Grasp a hold of the belt really tight and pull on it, watch the pulleys and > the one that moves is the tension pulley. | Civilians | This may be a really silly statement. But didn't you remember HOW you got the belt off in the first place?
