Default transmission 2001 Buick

I have a 2001 Buick 3.1 Century that makes a grinding noise when in Park.
but gets quiet when put into gear..... the sounds reminds me of a fly
wheel rubbing in the old days.... any ideas?

Yes, your input carrier is probably coming apart inside the trans. This
noise is usually the only indication that you get that something is wrong
before the car stops moving altogether. Get it checked.
