| NCO ![]() | TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) -- Talladega Superspeedway President Grant Lynch said Wednesday he has asked other NASCAR facilities to ban a dozen fans arrested for throwing objects onto the track, and at least one track quickly did so. Talladega has already barred those fans from buying tickets for future events at the Superspeedway for their behavior following Jeff Gordon's victory at the Aaron's 499 on Sunday. ![]() ![]() Las Vegas Motor Speedway general manager Chris Powell said Wednesday those fans would also not be allowed to buy tickets for any event at his track. "There is absolutely no place in our sport for that kind of behavior," Powell said. "First and foremost, it is a safety issue. Secondly, it reflects poorly on our sport and the millions of great racing fans across the country to have a few people act the way these individuals did on Sunday." Two other fans were also arrested and charged with disorderly conduct Sunday at Talladega, but weren't identified as throwing objects, Lynch said. He said the 12 fans were released from jail on $500 bond and several have already pleaded guilty. Six were from Alabama, four from Georgia, one from Florida and one from North Carolina. Lynch said track officials are also working with lawyers to find ways to make sure the 12 fans "do not commit these acts again on Talladega Superspeedway property." "We care about our fans and our racetrack and feel it is in the best interest of both if these individuals are not allowed on our facility for all future events," he said. NASCAR officials did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Lynch's request to other tracks. Talladega officials warned fans before the race that anyone caught throwing objects over the fence would be arrested. A number of fans ignored the warnings after Gordon won the race under caution to pass the late Dale Earnhardt in career wins. ![]() | Morons! ![]() I find it quite funny and do hope that all other tracks ban these morons as well ![]() Sure Gordon isn't a favorite and he tied Dale's legacy...so what? You race long enough and you'll eventually win. I was impressed and disappointed in Dale Jr's run though He should've won this race. Don't know what they did different....but it didn't work like it was supposed to ![]() |
