Forced diversity?

Why does Na$car deem it necessary to force feed us their so called
diversity? I don't see anybody crying for more whites in the NBA, if blacks
i.e. minorities want to race get a car start out on local short tracks prove
your worth then get a ride based on your ability not your skin color. Ya
think if I perm my hair and paint myself dark I'll ever get past my mini
stock?

Another that missed the point of the diversity program. They are NOT
forcing people to come to the track, they are trying to generate
interest in someplace other then redneck country. They are trying to
generate interest in non traditional nascar markets by providing
someone they can root for.

Look what Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie have done for golf (even
though michelle is only 15 and a sophomore in highschool, she came in
second last weekend) All they need is one big name to come out of the
diversity program and the viewership will go up for a change.

but why do I bother, most people will not change their opinion in the
presence of data or facts.

gee david, they only reason NASCAR wants black fans is because they are an
untapped source of revenue and Magic Johnson is helping to sell them out.
they may not be *forcing* them out to the tracks, but they are certainly
starting in the right spots, the young kids. you hook the kids, you get the
revenue from the parents. Tiger woods has a talent his father helped move
along as well as the Williams sisters in tennis. ii haven't heard of too
many black fathers devoting time or money to get their kids into go carting
or local short track racing. this diversity program is leading up to
finding someone who will give a non white driver a seat in a car so the non
white fans can have a driver to cheer for and come out to watch race.

it's not working so they're gonna try it in the Cup series and hope for more

After the last post, I remembered a proposal for big cities like
chicago from a couple of years ago. Build a kart track either indoors
(up north mainly for that one, they don't race with snow on the track,
do they?) or outdoors, own all the cars, have proper mechanics
maintain them. Then have leagues with you rent the Karts out. The
idea is to drastically lower the cost per team to something a lot more
people can handle. As it is, Karting is a nearly full time family
affair for the well to do. Most people can't afford a kart, trailer,
spare wheels, have the expertese to setup/maintain them, etc. The
proposal was mainly to lower the bar for normal folks to try it.

That's because even N$ believes what many around here do...get someone with
moderate talent, put them in a top notch car and they will win races....and
while I like to toss out occasionally that Joonyer proves this theory to be
true I will have to go on record here and say that Joonyer is well above
"moderate" in the talent department....a bit over rated by those who see him
as the reincarnation of his old man but very talented none the
less.....where the heck am I going with this?

There are also those that think great talent can win in anything,
including your moms old jalopy. The key to winning races in any
series is not JUST have talent. Half or more of it is having a decent
ride else you become a rolling chicane reguardless of talent.
