What do you mean? They race what they qualify in Cup.

Not totally. The Busch Series has been impounded the cars after qualifying so
they have to run what they qualify on with no changes.(They do get to take the
tape off the nose) The Cup cars will be able to change springs, wedge, etc
during their final 2 practices today so they aren't exactly running what they
qualify. The car and the motor are the same but the set up will be a lot
different.

Only in the most literal sense.

I think the OP meant, take the car "AS" you qualified it,
and race that car...
I've always thought it was funny, that if you changed cars,
you had to start in the rear.
If you change nearly everything ON the car, they call it the
same car..

If they just want to see who can go the fastest, then do that.
But I do agree, that qualifying shouldn't be a seperate car
from racing. It should be the same car.... as qualified..

They also change rocker arm ratios and valve springs. They use a higher
ratio rocker and littler springs to get a few more rpm.

The Busch series,,for the past few races,,have impounded the cars after
qualifying. No changes,,except for removing some tape (as pointed out by
someone else),,and no Happy Hour.
The announcers pointed out that they had to be careful not to "spew" all
the water out of the radiator during qualifying,,as they would not be
able to add any before the race. Apparently Cup cars have a large tank
with water in it,,besides the radiator,,and they are allowed to make
many changes to the cars during Happy Hour. Jeff Gordon seemed to like
the idea when asked about it during one of his interviews.

If they started the cars in the rear after making changes how do you start 43
cars in the rear of the pack?
