Default rookies and championships

What's the shortest time a driver has taken to go from rookie to champion?
Jeff Gordon did it his third full year. Tony Stewart in his 4th year. Has
anyone actually done it their first or second year?

It seems much more possible this year with the chase for the championship. I
don't think it's likely that Kasey will actually go all the way this year,
but he will definitely be in the chase.

Your thoughts?

Didn't know there had to be one.
Just pointing out he had run races for four years
before his first full season.

I didn't say you said he wasn't I pointed out that you added a useless
little caveat to the fact that he is.

Just what does "Rookie Of The Year" or "______________" Cup Champion mean
anymore???
"THE WINSTON" is no more.(being a champion got you into that race).
Oh, as a "past "__________" Cup Champion" you can get into a race if you
can't qualify.
Rookie Of The Year means nothing after the season ends.

IIRC Rusty Wallace was a ROTY, and a "____________" Cup Champion.

Where is he now?
