Default Dangerous irregularities in the Darlington wall

Why doesn't NASCAR mandate that all irregular corners be removed from
all tracks' outer walls? Darlington is one of the tracks that have these
"pockets" and protrusions out into and away from the outer walls?
They put up soft walls for safty and leave these irregularities in the
outer wall?
Michael

The irregularity in the Darlington wall keeps cars from hitting both ends of
the car coming out of the turn. The front end will scrape the wall but the rear
doesn't slap the wall because of the irregular wall. I don't know if that is
why it hasn't ever been changed or if it was done that way on purpose but that
may be one of the reasons it has never been "fixed"

At some tracks the irregular wall is a gate and the gate is necessary because
the only way to get haulers to the infield is across the track.

Because its a racetrack and its always been that way.
NASCAR is about racing not safe public transportation.

I'm sorry I don't usually make these kinds of posts (except for the few
short bussers in the bunch) but this has got to be one of the dumbest posts
in quite a long time.

Following your logic NASCAR should simply design the "perfect" track and
make all the track look like that perfect track. Or maybe we should just
remove the turns altogether.... Oh wait a minute that's called drag racing.

Saftey is a dumbness issue to you? Now that is a new viewpoint since so
many drivers have died simply hitting the outer wall.

These irregularities are where the cars follow the outer wall and then
get into trouble when the wall changes, the tracks don't have to be
straight but a smoother transition would ne an improvement. At 185 mph
what do the irregularities do other than provide a hazard?
Michael

LOL, the track is one of the oldest on the circuit and I can't remember a
serious injury due to irregular walls. Compare that to New Hamster
("misspelling" intentional) which is relatively new without irregular wall
and count the deaths.

Michael, I'm sorry but you original comment is just plain stupid.

Darlington has character, nothing more. It's a great old track and I'm
happy to here the comments from most of the drivers that the new softwalls
haven't changed much.
