December 14, 2004MEMORANDUM FOR CORRESPONDENTS FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Maj. Gen. Stephen Speakes, Army G-8, Force Development, along with Brig. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, Director of Systems Management & Horizontal Technology Integration, ASA(ALT), will discuss how the Army is transforming to meet changing operational threats and specifically address the Army’s strategy to armor (both Add-on Armor (AoA) and Up-Armor), its Tactical Wheeled Vehicle (TWV) fleet to meet the CENTCOM Combatant Commander’s operational force protection requirements while at war.

Discussions will include: the three levels of protection within the light, medium and heavy tactical vehicle fleet; armor program overview in theater; production rate initiatives; and industry vendor program overview.

Static displays of several armored and unarmored vehicles include the HMMWV, Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT), Family Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV), and Palletized Load Systems (PLS) and the M35 5-ton truck series will be at the Pentagon for photographs. Samples of armor plates and examples of the three levels of protection will also be demonstrated via the static display.

As always, questions will be taken during the roundtable in the order that e-mail RSVPs are received. Note that we have a set ending time, so time for questions will be limited during the media roundtable, however SMEs will be available afterwards and during the static display.
