| Pending User ![]() | I'm not sure what course they are using at Knox for AOBC land nav, but I have done most if not all the pre-fab courses there. I'm also not sure if they are teaching it with GPS or not. If you've not been on Knox yet the terrain is fairly hilly. Depending on the time of year it can be anything from dusty to extremely muddy. Overall none of the Land Nav. courses at Knox have ever been all that difficult to negotiate. Pay close attention to what you are doing and you will have no problems. No matter what they teach, (GPS or Compass) always keep a compass back up. Nothing worse then being in the middle of nowhere and having your batteries go dead or equipment malfunction. I've been trained with both, used both. GPS is a nice gizmo and I've not seen much problem with it, I've never seen anything go wrong with a good compass and map. |

| Non-Commissioned Officer ![]() | If using GPS units, be careful about paying too much attention to your GPS and not to your surroundings. It can screw you up. Pay attention to the environment around you.
