Default quick change barrel m48

I have read that the M48 Patton with the m41 90 mm gun introduced the quick change barrel. My question is how is the barrel changed(interupted threads counter clock wise?) Thanks, Cole

Although not too experienced with the older guns, I can tell you yes, the modern quick-change tubes are interupted thread type. Most all of them have a locking pinion bolt that holds them in once they are threaded. Pretty easy to change actually, only takes about 20 minutes.

what are the advantages in changing tubes?

is it for more range on a longer barrel?

Gun tubes have a finite lifespan. With both the M68, and the M247, the breech assembly has a life that is five times and three times (respectively) longer than the tube. This means that every time you shoot out the max number of rounds for a tube, it gets replaced. You replace the max number of tubes, and the entire assembly (breechring, breechblock, AND gun tube) gets replaced.

I only participated in one or two M68 tube changes and I don't really remember it as easy, but it wasn't nearly as big a deal as I anticipated.

Well the M68 wasn't as easy as the M256 (My bad, NOT M247, lol), but it was still a relatively easy job (if the right people were doing it). So, did ya have the right folks DD6? Lol.........

wasn't so much the folks as the equipment. we had m578 in lieu of 5 ton wreckers and it just wasn't as versatile.
