Default Changing contract and life?

Sorry to be asking questions without an introduction. But Ive been giving active army a lot of thought, im not even sure if its possible in my current situation and sorry If this is the wrong place to ask. I've got 4 months untill I graduate from highschool. I joined the national guard last Feb and went through basic training during my junior-senior summer, now im in my senior year of highschool near graduation. Ill go to AIT afterward (Im 11b). I do want to go to college but am being pulled by some strange force to try and go active army. Im also heavily influenced about going airborne, since my brother did and ive always looked up too him.

Is it possible to get airborne and or air assualt added to my contract? I feel like I made a mistake and should of just waited untill after highschool, so I could go active and join an airborne unit. Im very uncertain how things will go or should. I need some guidance.

I am not so sure that's possible. I would suggest you contact your recruiter and ask him.

Regardless, I am proud of you for deciding to make yourself available to Uncle Sam at these rough times. You show a lot of charactor. Thank you for your service (to be).

Maybe others hear can help. If not, call your recruiter.

I can only recommend that you talk to an active duty recruiter about transferring to the active Army. However considering that the National Guard has already invested money training you, they may not want to let you go.

If you really want to get either ABN or AASLT talk to your unit, most Infantry TO&E units in the Guard get a good number of slots for these schools. Also talk to your Guard recruiter, as recently National Guard Bureau started a program where if you recruit 5 people they will send you to ABN or AASLT. I bet you could get a few people in your High School to sign up for the Guard just by talking it up.

Im really fed up with my unit, Ive been an E-01 for 12 months. Ive passed basic training, im not a scumbag but still im an E-01, Your supposed to atleast be an E-02 after 6 months of enlistment. Ive been bugging them every month about it and they tell me, youll be promoted next month. We'll see next month I guess. And I really dont like my recruiter, but that wont stop me from communicating with him. Ive recommended a lot of people to him, ive encouraged several people to join the service (not just ARNG). But he doesnt care, I dont think it will get me anywhere. Not to be self centered but Im one of the more known kids at my school, so I do have a lot of influence, I did happen to win home coming king Also my units in Bosnia right now, I dont know if that changes anything. So how do I find out about a slot being open? Im still in unsure about what Im wanting to do. Thanks for all your guys input.

Don't be afraid to communicate with your chain of command.

"Who" is telling you that you will be promoted next month? Is it your team leader? If so, ask him if he has pursued the matter at all since you told him about it. If you "legitimately" feel that no action was taken, bring the problem to your next higher leader and let them know that there is a problem. If it still doesn’t get resolved in realistic amount of time, then take it higher again.

Most Commanders and First Sergeants have an open door policy with the purpose in mind that if a soldier has a problem and it is has not been handled through the chain-of-command, they want to know about it.

That being said, before you go to "Top" *****ing about not getting your E2, make sure you have communicated with your chain-of-command first. The worst thing you can do to your Platoon Sergeant is to let him find out you had a problem he never know about straight from your First Sergeant. Don’t make your PSG and SL look like assholes because they were never informed you had a problem.

Im considered a non-prior, I dont exactly have a chain of command. A diffrent person is in charge of us every drill and yes I talked to them. The person whom Ive been talking too was the readiness NCO, considering hes the only one at the unit now. Now im at a non-prior service unit since most of the units in the area are gone. Theyre just now setting up and wont be able to handle any promotions anytime soon. Sorry to of led the thread off subject.
