| Senior Treadhead ![]() | I'm stationed with the Operational Test Command at West Ft. Hood. I can tell you what's in the other newsbits (like Earlybird). The Strker Brigade has passed it's certification (a test of the Stryker concept). The vehicle itself is undergoing it's Operational Test right now at Ft. Knox. In order to deploy a unit with untested equipment, the okay would have to come from the very top. I don't know of anyone willing to put his cojones out on the table for that one. A soldier should never have a piece of equipment put in his hands until it had proven itself capable of doing it's job while keeping him alive. The Stryker is like any of the weapons we have in the arsenal. Used as it was intended, our weapons know no match. Bradleys were never intended to duke it out with tanks, and neither are the Strykers. Used as it was designed, the Stryker Brigade should prove a potent force. "Over twenty, and still kickin'" |

| Senior Treadhead ![]() | Sorry Bota, I don't like disagreeing with folks (it can seem a little too knowitallish), but I'm with the Stryker Test Team. We are in some of the final prep stages leading up to the Operational Test, but haven't begun the test as of yet. It's possible that you saw where they passed the certification. The Stryker certification was a test of the concept, not the vehicle itself. It had me confused at first. Here I was reading about the Stryker "Passing with flying colors!", yet I knew that the ones doing the test (us), hadn't even started it yet! You're right, the MGS is a little problematic (think about it, a tank gun on a big truck?). They seem to have settled on a single design for a gun, but it's still caught up in developmental testing. A newer version of the old M68 cannon from what I've heard. But still, I think that even passing all of it's testing, going through all the trainup, and the assorted "let's see how they handle this" exercises, it'll be a few years before we ever see the Strykers in action. |
