Default Korea to another OCONUS post

I'm going to Korea for a one-year hitch in August. Besides extending in Korea and returning to Knox as an XO (no offense Jason!), would it be possible to go to Alaska or Hawaii, or even Germany for 12-24 months? Just wondering, as I would like to try and be with Scouts as a 1LT.

They won't send you to Germany, but Alaska and Hawaii are possibilities. I have one friend who went to Alaska from Korea (took Jason's platoon, if I remember correctly). He had even extended in Korea an extra 6 months and got AK as a follow on. It's all really dependent on how well you can sweet talk the folks at branch. You're more likely though to get a CONUS TOE assignment. Don't let them tell you the only place you can go is Knox, they'll say that to get you to extend in Korea. There are options open, I went to Carson following Korea.

Good news. I'd obviously prefer a TOE slot to Knox, but AK sounds interesting with scouts and strykers. Wouldn't be a bad idea ot have heavy and scout experience before commanding -- would know which one I would like to focus on. Will see what I get when I get to that bridge.
