![]() | This from the fact sheets located on this site: Maximum: 42 mph (67.72 kilometers). Cross Country: 30 mph (48.3 kilometers). No mater what the talking heads say, the M1 will not clear that unless the turret is removed and the govenor over ridden. I got to drive a governed turretless M1, it topped out at about 50-55.

| Head Mouse Trainer ![]() | Good answer Irish and soo true. It depends on the pack aswell, I have had some that were near the overhaul point and would just lag horribly and some that were fresh that were like bullets. Depends alot on terrain too. I think the factory quote of 55 had to be in the downhill ;-) Ask more questions!! Thanks again, -Jason |

![]() | Jason, I take it the PCS wen't well? I hope so! True about the life on the engine. Diesel Turbines in a track are good for about 6 months with minimum servicing. But that is in a garrison enviroment wit one rotation to the field for 45 days. That said I really feel for the maintenance folks over in the sandbox following the 4th around. While serving my last tour in Germany I was the lukiest man in the world, I recived the first of the reconstituted M-88's to arrive in theater. I'm talking total overhaul, it smelled like a new car. 8) Talk about pulling power, it could haul an M-1 at almost 25 mph! 8O Phillip

| Enlisted Warrior ![]() | Iv drove a few tanks that will get up to 50 miles and hour, on level ground of course. But the fastest ones are the ones who are almost ready to get overhauled. I was a marine tanker though and i seen it with my own eyes. Im not all that sure how the army does there ovehauls and such. I guess if its a common or heavy could effect the speed to though. |

| Senior Treadhead ![]() | Back in the early 80's, with the old XM-1s, it wasn't too hard to get those tanks in the 60-65 MPH range. I have no idea why these tanks were so fast (ser #'s L0031, L0032, etc), but when I left Hood and went to Germany, the newer tanks there weren't nearly as fast. But since the governor is actually programming in the ECU, it would have to be connected with the programming code. Dunno..... |
