This is an issue that is a thorn in my side and very nearly cost the President my vote and several others I know.
Those of us who had to jump through all the hoops and all the interviews and medicals, recommendations and sponsors, ad nauseam - are VERY upset about this. Many had to wait on a list for a quota acceptance for years, I did not come on a quota so I did not have to wait as long as many. However, you would not believe the paraphanalia(sp) we had to go through in those days.
I am not sure the title AMNESTY is quite right, it is not really Amnesty as I understand it - though I have not read the article in detail yet.
However, the President will never convince me that these immigrants will stay and work on a permit for three years and then elect to return to wherever. Keeping in mind we are not only talking about Mexicans, at least they will work, others just jump on the welfare bandwagon at the first opportunity.
Then of course we have the other idiotic law in this country that states "If your baby is born here, it is an immediate American Citizen". This is abused beyond your wildest dreams and imagination, pregnant women continually enter this country for a visit, from all over the world, drop a baby and then claim that as it is an American Citizen and is entitled to all the rights thereof, they can stay here and bring all their rrelatives here too. This option is well known worldwide, particularly in Mexico and points south, Philippines, Laos, Vietnam, China and all points East and West.
The whole thing is a complete disaster.
