New ECM. I put a remanufactured factory ECM in today. The ECM was setting code 63
for the EGR valve. Testing indicated the EGR was alright as were the
other components that set code 63. When the Goodwrench hooked up a Tech
1 it read code 26, a problem in the quad driver in the ECM.
I removed the lower dash trim, plus removed the glove box assembly. I
like allot of room to work & to look & snoop . I then discovered more
F%$#ing handi - work done by " Idiots Deluxe - Alarm Installers " way
back in 1991.
There must be 15 + feet of 3 different colors of wire rolled up & tied
in a ball & stuffed up by the RH Relay Center/ Fuse panel. Bad, very Bad
!
Another stunt was taping two relays together & shorting the wire length
going to the left side of the dash. The relays had to hang under the
area of the heater core box causing the lower black dash trim panel to
bulge downward.
I ended up cutting the shorted side, soldered in 13 inches more wire, I
also used heat shrink tube to cover the splice. I was then able to mount
the double relay to the side of the plastic Relay Center. I'm not even
sure what those two relays would of been for.
The big ball of wire ( I should of cut out the excess wire, but I didn't
have time ) I just neaten that up somewhat and was able to tuck it into
an open crevice that is part of the Relay Center box.
I removed the heater core cover to look in there, all is dry. Easy to
remove when the time comes.
I took a peek under the carpet and discovered the floor still to be a
solid piece of sheet metal...LOL , There was a dime size spot of
antifreeze in the corner of the floor pan under a plastic routing tube
used to route wire from the front to the rear of the vehicle.
Its very strange finding a spot of antifreeze down there. The carpet &
thick sound deadening insulation has no staining and was bone dry. I
can't imagine how it got there. The dash trim panel under the heater
core box is foam covered and the insulation on the back of the carpet
runs right up to the top edge of the carpet where it contacts the
firewall and either of the two would of absorbed that little amount of
antifreeze.
Could antifreeze have gotten down there and " remained " there when the
heater hoses were changed 8 -9 years ago???
Looks like we got another Harryface Mystery on our hands !
Car runs great.
